Loch Morar and the Silver Sands
Located in the Scottish Highlands, Loch Morar is the fifth largest freshwater loch in Scotland measuring over ten miles in length. The water depth is 1,017ft (310m) making it the deepest body of freshwater in the British Isles. The loch also contains a notorious beast similar to Loch Ness, ‘the Morag’ or ’loch monster’ which has been seen by many visitors to the area, however she is not quite as famous as her Scottish cousin living in Loch Ness! Geographically, the primary outflow for the loch is to the west along the River Morar which is the shortest river in Scotland at less than 1km in length. The sandy estuary and beach located at Morar Bay could easily be mistaken for the Caribbean on a sunny day making it one of my favourite locations in Scotland.
