Loch Ness and the Southern Trail
Quite possibly the most well known location in Scotland, Loch Ness is a fresh water loch located in the Great Glen which extends across the Scottish Highlands between Fort William to the east and Inverness to the west. The most famous resident in these parts has to be ‘Nessie’ the Loch Ness monster, the great beast which roams free within the loch itself and occasionally on the surrounding slopes. Loch Ness is the second largest body of fresh water in Scotland, second only to Loch Lomond. The loch is 22.5 miles in length and nearly two miles wide, it is also very deep at almost 230m. The loch holds more fresh water than all of the lakes in England and Wales combined which provides the perfect habitat for Nessie.
