Long Melford, South Suffolk
Long Melford is located in Suffolk on the Essex / Suffolk border. The River Stour runs along its length and the village is well known for its wealthy wool trade, church, and halls. The name originates from its 3 mile stretch of road and the Mill ford which crosses the Chad Brook tributary for the River Stour. t is officially one of the longest villages in England and was a busy place to live and work in Tudor times. With its historic buildings, numerous antique shops, tea rooms and high end fashion boutiques, the village is popular with tourists. Long Melford and its neighbours, Lavenham, Cavendish and Clare, are referred to as the ‘jewels’ of the rural Suffolk landscape.
