Sudbury, South Suffolk
Sudbury is a rural market town located on the Essex / Suffolk border, with the River Stour carving its way through and around the town. It became notable in the 18th century for its art and is the birth place of the famous artist Thomas Gainsborough whose landscape paintings offered inspiration to other regional artists such as John Constable. There is evidence of a settlement being located at Sudbury as early as the 8th century during the Anglo-Saxon era and the market was established in the early 11th century.
